I have a question about Rangers... Do they just suck early on or do they suck right through the game? lol, I'm level 14 (almost 15) now and so far I can't complete hard missions unless I get a bunch of people to help me 
I guess they become better once you get your chain spell in level 16?

You hit the nail on the head there. At 16 they come into their own and then the fun starts. Keep at it... its a brilliant class later on. You wont be disappointed.

Welcome, eventhough I'm not "officially" an Aion player yet - damn shop's taking their merry time to deliver the game. It'll probably rock up here on Tuesday or something.
Interesting choice, the templar. I'm considering it too, apparently it sort of resembles the WoW paladin class (I've been tanking with one of those for years, so it's kinda in the blood

Templar is cool, I'm level 15 with it now, started on Saturday morning. Basically 24hours ago
I like tanking - especially if there is a chanter to supply me with HP then Grinding is easy
For me it was between Templar and Cleric now. Ranger isn't for me... so I took the Templar. Word of advice.. don't duel spirit masters... lol
(I have a question: Is it better to have a weaker one handed sword and equip a shield with Templar or is it better to use a strong two handed weapon and no shield?)
