Obtaining Contribution Medals

Post by Sinner on Mon Dec 21, 2009 2:29 pm

If you're not sure how to get these, then read on. If you already know, hopefully this will make it a bit clearer. This applies to both Elyos & Asmodian.

Silver Medals

These are the easier ones to come across, & there are a couple of ways to obtain them.
  • All chests in Fortress Instances have a chance of containing one, so try to open as many as possible when running one of these.
  • Taking part in Fortress Sieges.

There has been a few changes to how the rewards work in Fortress Sieges, so here is a basic Strategy to obtaining the most medals.
  • Most Fortress's become Vulnerable around the same time everyday, so make a note, & schedule yourself free at these times.
  • Stay close to the Fortress at all times, whether you are Attacking or Defending, get as much AP as possible in & around the Fortress.
  • When Attacking, make sure you go all out 100%, & put out as much DPS as you possibly can. Carry +Attack foods, or anything that will help, & HP pots to help with Survivability.
  • When Defending, Make sure you kill as many Players of the Opposing Faction as possible, in & around the Fortress.
  • Don't go after the Artifacts during a Siege, this will not give you any Medals.

The major change to the Siege Contribution Reward System, is that it is no longer tied to the Winning Legion, therefore, if you take part, & kick butt, you should recieve your rewards in the Mailbox once the Siege is over.

Golden Medals

These also drop from Fortress Instance Chests, but not anywhere near as much as the Silver ones. The best way to get these is to join in Sieges, again both Attacking & Defending.

A Little Gamble

This also applies to both Elyos & Asmodian.

In Terminon Landing & the Asmo equivalent, there is a hidden fountain. When you click on it to activate, it will ask you to throw in a Silver Medal. You must have 1 Silver Medal in your inventory to be able to do this, but its is a big gamble. I would only suggest to try this if you have plenty of Silver Medals to play with.

Terminon Landing Location - This is underneath the left side on the main building. You will have to fly off the side & down to the platform.

It can be done 255 times, the rewards are as follows:
1000xp
100% Chance
Rusty Medal
High Chance
2 Silver Medals
Low Chance
Golden Medal
Very Low Chance

Siege Tips

  • Take & use a Kisk. It is highly likely that you will die at least once.
  • Obtaining Medals for Fortress Defense is slightly easier than Attack due to the fact, you have less to do.
  • When Defending, Teleport to the Fortress ahead of time. The moment the siege starts the price for Teleport increases drastically, & Once they get inside you can't teleport anymore.
  • Get there early, Only the Top XX Contributors receive Rewards.
  • Team up & take Siege Weapons if possible.

Yea, talk about the High Chance for a Rusty Medal Very Happy
I think it can be fun for people with lots of silvers to try and get golds though... or the filthy rich who don't mind the gamble Razz

Anyway, yea, we need to take part in all fortress seiges and also run more instances. Thanks for the guide Sinner.

I got a silver medal yesterday in our sulpher fortress instance run, it goes for over 200k on the Broker but did not sell mine seeing you need it for high end abyss gear.

Regarding when fortresses get vulnerable? Do we have set times for these? Can we include it in the OP?

this is another good reason to participate in the Watchers AP event!

Hi there.

Did they change the fortress siege mechanic recently? I've taken part in a couple but never received anything.

Thanks

Yes Wit, the last update brought in the changes.

Fortress Sieges

  • Fortress Guardian Deity Generals disappear after 30 minutes on their own spawn timer.
  • If your race destroys the guardian within the 30-minute timer, then your faction gets the fort.
  • If your race successfully defends the guardian within the 30-minute timer, then you succeed in defending the fort.
  • Divine Fortress Guardian Deity Generals spawns last 2 hours as usual.

Players rewarded defending any fort

  • Rewards for defending a fortress are not limited to legion members only anymore.
  • Depending on your contribution during defense, you will earn the rewards that will be delivered via mail right after the siege ends.

Contribution Changes

  • Lowered the contribution you get from killing opposing PCs during sieges.
  • Contributions from doing other things (killing NPCs, Fort gates, Fort guardians) remain the same.

Confirmed. I got a gold medal for taking part in the Miren Fortress Siege.

Evangelica helped defend Roah last night, so would be interesting to see what she received for that effort.

PS. Some tips for (top-level) fortress sieges:
* NB! Take and use a kisk. It is highly likely that you will die at least once from the crazy boss AoE. It doesn't seem to hit everyone though - might be aggro related or it might make a difference if you stand behind the boss - not enough data yet to say for sure.
* It should be easier to get medals for defense than for attack. Attack has a lot of other stuff you have to do, aside from killing Asmodians and the boss is also AoEing the baddies, so not sure how the calculations work. Should become more clear in time.
* For defense, teleport to the fortress ahead of time. The moment the siege starts the price for teleport triples (or more). Once they get inside you can't teleport anymore. Also, getting there early will ensure a bigger share of the rewards. Same applies for sieges.
* For sieges we should team up and take siege weapons. Hopefully someone in the legion can make them - I wouldn't be surprised if taking down the gate contributes quite a bit to getting rewards.

Well i for one am getting highly addicted to fortress raids after that epic battle we had just outside termninion landing on saturday!

after you left witblits we tried to take kysis, we had the general deity down to 50% until the asmos game drove us out, we regrouped and took the over hand but we ran out of time with the deity on like 5%, which was, to say the least very disappointing. It seems that the 30min to take a fort is just not enough

i agree with allin your post esp the kisk and and the siege weapon part, siege weapon will ensure that gate goes down faster and more time to to kill the deity

also a bit sad is that with the sheer numbers of players my comp couldnt cut it and i have a good rig wonder if the guys verseas with there 10sec pings do?

Without gamepath I can't take part in fortress sieges at all. With gamepath it is only slightly laggy - good enough to take part at least. Would also love to know how the players with the low pings and lots of bandwidth experience those raids.

It has to be better than how we experience it... Very Happy

I need to re-install my Windows XP drive again. It went belly up on me last week so now I'm stuck with windows 7 and we all know that the only OS for seiges is XP...
At least in XP I can see whats going on and cast a spell every now and then. In 7 its like a powerpoint presentation at 1page/second... not good.

Oh, and like I thought... I didn't receive any rewards. Maybe the game just doesn't like clerics... or I don't know.

With my current rig, anything more than about 10 players on screen = 1fps.

I was also at that epic fight outside terminion thats Sparks mentioned. As soon as I got there it became unplayable. I would manage (just) to select an asmo target and try cast my first spell. This would result in a 10 second lag (not exagerating here). The next frame to render I would be dead. I think the spell did manage to fire though because I somehow managed to register a kill.

I don't use Gamepath and get pings of about 700ms. It's perfectly playable for me on a small scale. Best to avoid the epic battles though.

sigh

See this is what makes me sad, i mean does this mean that we will never be part of these epic battles then Sad

Or atleast find it enjoyble like the rest of the world with their uber pings?

Should i only be content with PvE and small scale skirmishes?

Not an ideal solution i know, but I was at a Recent Kysis Fortress Siege, & I used Shift+F12. Team Members remained Visible, and so did the General who we were attacking, everyone else was invisible, thus my screen reactions were the same as normal.

What i did notice is that Asmodians who got close & were targeted also became visible. I just had to keep an eye on the red dots on the Mini-map

This maybe something that we will have to consider as the best possible way to do these Sieges, with any sort of decent FPS.

Hi there.

Gamepath makes all the difference guys. Before using gamepath I couldn't do fortress sieges either. Similar experience to Spark-e. With gamepath casting etc is normal. Character updates does lag a little, however I am using Win7 ...

I didn't know that XP performs so much better ... maybe I need to trash the partition and re-install XP. (gotta love the mac, can delete and resize partitions on the fly) so it's no biggy to redo it especially since the only app installed on Windows is Aion. ;-)

Ok, I said I would have a trawl through T'interweb to find answers why some people are getting rewards and others not.

Here are my findings using Examples.
  • Example A: I didn't get anything, I turned up a bit late but I was there till the End of the Siege.
  • Example B: I was there, but it was empty, no one turned up & I killed 1 thing but got Medals & Kinah.
  • Answer: Although the Contribution Reward System works on any player who took part in the Siege & not just the winning legion, it Calculates a table of Contribution, & will reward only the Top XX contributors. Rumour has it only the Top 50, but that is Not Confirmed.

Explanation:
  • Example A didn't recieve anything because too many people had already gained Contribution before they arrived, therefore they didnt make the cut.
  • Example B did recieve a Reward because although he didnt do a lot, there was not a lot of other people there, so his small contribution made the Top XX.

I hope this clears it up for everyone.
